Warm-Ups

In the beginning of every single class we do the same warm-ups which are Wind Orchestra Warm-Ups and a different styles of Warm-ups. The Wind Orchestra Warm-Ups consist of 5 different exercises which help you practice your articulation, and practicing the notes in up to three different octaves which helps me make my pitch more accurate and have a wider knowledge of fingerings for notes I may never see on sheet music, but it can be useful. Then with the major scales, we do different kinds, derived from the same notes. The one we most popularly do is a very simple scale that only goes one octave higher, that we repeat. The other one however is different major scales that go up two octaves higher, which repeat and then it moves to arpeggios so we can familiarize ourselves with the different intervals between notes on a scale.

Festival of Lights

Wednesday, November 28 the band participated in an event in CIC called Festival of Lights. We played a repertoire of about 10 songs which were in this order.

- Birdland
- Tear The Roof of The Sucker (Give Up The Funk)
- Funky See, Funky Do
- Phantom of the Opera
- Lady Marmalade
- Pirates of The Caribbean
- Feliz Navidad

I had the first flute in all of these songs, and led all my section. I had a very important section in Phantom of the Opera, and a solo in Pirates of the Caribbean which I played alone, and am proud of how it came out. The rest of the songs came out very well, I was proud of how the band sounded. Carmen Suite, however,. was a little bit rough because of the very rough and quick articulation that is entitled while playing that song, but it came out alright. Almost all of them came out nice though, I was glad to have participated.

Music in Industries

At the beginning of the year, Mr. Tomassi handed us a packet about Music in Today's Society, and it talked about how people use music in industries. It talks about how people that have big companies use music for advertisement, and it talks about how music can send subliminal messages to the listeners to influence their choices. Big productions use music a lot to change peoples decisions and influence their daily choices, this is used a lot in commercials and advertisements in general. After reading this, Mr. Tomassi started planning an Audio Visual project that first was a mix tape of a different series of songs sending the same message. That was the first step. The second step was making a fusion of videos that transmitted your message, and you would put them together, and you had your Audio Visual project. I did my project about a heartbreak. I had different songs, and mixed them using a program called Virtual DJ, and we burned it on to a CD. Then, I collected a series of different videos that transmitted the message and put them together using iMovie, and after, I added the music of my mixed tape to it and then I had my AV project to give in on a CD.
